Folger Shakespeare Library

Potomac Construction completed work on the Folger Shakespeare Library located at 201 E Capitol St, Washington, DC. The building, which opened to the public in 1932, is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and is home to the world’s largest collection of the printed works of William Shakespeare.
The project consisted of the renovation and build-out of three separate areas spanning two floors: a point-of-service bar, a support kitchen, and a walk-in cooler. The bar’s façade features felt-right cashmere panels with unique engravings. The building is historic so many precautions had to be taken to preserve the integrity of the building. The service bar was not allowed to touch any historic services, a one inch neoprene pad was installed under the bar so the terracotta floor was not damaged. Each tile is made from 50% recycled single-use plastic, which has been broken down into fibers and sterilized without harmful chemicals.
